Baby's First Bath

This week, our unit happened to be closed so we went to the Labor and Delivery Unit to help out in the nursery. At the nursery we watched nurses bathe the newborn babies, which was really cute! Just as you see in the picture above, the nurse places the baby in a little tub in the sink of the nursery room. They let us brush the baby's hair and taught us how gentle and careful you have to be with the baby's head because the scalp is not fully formed yet. The baby has a place on his/her head, that is known as the fontanelle, which is just above the newborn's forehead. It is very soft and doesn't close up until the baby is around 6 weeks. Overall, it was really cool learning about the fontanelle because my mom had mentioned it to me before, back when my little brother was born.
